Efficacious Novena to the Sacred Heart of Jesus

http://www.ewtn.com/Devotionals/heart/sh_novena.htm

  Novena to the Holy Spirit

The novena in honor of the Holy Spirit is the oldest of all novenas since it was first made at the direction of Our Lord Himself when He sent His apostles back to Jerusalem to await the coming of the Holy Spirit on the first Pentecost. It is still the only novena officially prescribed by the Church. Addressed to the Third Person of the Blessed Trinity, it is a powerful plea for the light and strength and love so sorely needed by every Christian.

 The Divine Mercy Chaplet

(Prayed on rosary beads)

The Sign of the Cross

† In the Name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.  Amen.

The Our Father

"Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name; Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil, Amen."

The Hail Mary

"Hail Mary, full of grace. The Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou amongst women and blessed is the fruit of Thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death, Amen."

The Apostles’ Creed

"I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth. And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, Our Lord, Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, and born of the Virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell and on the third day He arose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body and life everlasting, Amen."

For five decades, at the start of each decade, on the Our Father beads, pray the following:

"Eternal Father, I offer You the Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity of Your dearly beloved Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ, in atonement for our sins and those of the whole world."

Then, on the Hail Mary beads pray the following (ten times):

V.  For the sake of His sorrowful Passion,

R.  Have mercy on us and on the whole world.

In conclusion, pray the following (three times):

"Holy God, Holy Mighty One, Holy Immortal One, Have mercy on us and on the whole world."

At this time the following aspiration is traditionally added (three times):

"O Blood and Water, which gushed forth from the Heart of Jesus as a fountain of Mercy for us, I trust in You."

JESUS' PROMISES FOR PRAYING THE DIVINE MERCY CHAPLET

• "The Souls that will say this Chaplet will be embraced by My mercy during their life time and especially at the hour of their death."

• "To Priests who proclaim My mercy, I will give wondrous power and touch the hearts of those to whom they will speak." (1521)

• "I promise that the soul that will venerate My image will not perish." (48) "The two rays denote blood and water...These two rays issued from the very depths of My tender mercy when My agonized Heart was opened bv a lance on the Cross." (299)

• "Souls who spread the honor of My mercy...at the hour of death I will not be a Judge for them but a Merciful Savior." (1057)

• "The prayer most pleasing to Me is prayer for the conversion of sinners. Know my daughter that this prayer is always heard and answered." (1397)

• "I desire that the Feast of Mercy be solemnly celebrated on the first Sunday after Easter. The soul that will go to Confession within 8 days and receive Holy Communion and spend some time in adoration before the Blessed Sacrament on this day shall obtain complete forgiveness of sins and punishment." (699)

• "When they say this Chaplet in the presence of the dying, I will stand between My Father and the dying person, not as the just Judge, but as the Merciful Savior." (154)

    Jesus said to St. Faustina:

"Encourage souls to say the Chaplet which I have given you.....Whoever will recite it will recieve great mercy at the hour of death.....When they say this Chaplet in the presence of the dying, I will stand between My Father and the dying person, not as the just Judge, but as the Merciful Saviour.....Priests will recommend it to sinners as their last hope of salvation. Even if there were a sinner most hardened, if he were to recite this chaplet only once, he would receive grace from My infinite Mercy. I desire to grant unimaginable graces to those souls who trust in My Mercy.....Through the Chaplet you will obtain everything, if what you ask for is compatible with My Will."  (687,1541,1731)

Tender Mercies: The Story of St. Faustina Kowalska and Divine Mercy Sunday

Here is the  is a link to The Charter for Health Care Workers  from thePontifical Council for Pastoral Assistance to Health Care Workers :

 129. With regard to this determination, the Pontifical Academy of Sciences has made an authoritative contribution. First with regard to the biomedical definition of death: "a person is dead when he has irreversibly lost all ability to integrate and coordinate the physical and mental functions of the body".

Second, with regard to the precise moment of death: "death comes when: a) the spontaneous functions of the heart and breathing have definitively ceased, or b) the irreversible arrest of all brain activity". In reality "brain death is the true criterion of death, although the definitive arrest of cardio-respiratory activity very quickly leads to brain death."257

Faith and morals accept these findings of science. However, they demand of health care workers the most accurate use of the various clinical and instrumental methods for a certain diagnosis of death so that a patient is not declared dead and treated as such when in fact he is not dead.

Prayer of St. Alphonsus Liguori

LORD Jesus Christ, who, through the love which Thou bearest to men, dost remain with them, day and night, in this Sacrament, full of mercy and of love, expecting, inviting, and receiving all who come to visit Thee: I believe that Thou art present in the Sacrament of the Altar. From the abyss of my nothingness I adore Thee, and I thank Thee for all the graces which Thou hast bestowed upon me, particularly for having given me Thyself in this Sacrament, for having given me for my advocate Thy most holy Mother, Mary, and for having called me to visit Thee in this church. I pay my homage this day to Thy most loving Heart, and I do so, first, in thanksgiving for this great gift itself-, secondly, as a reparation for all the injuries which Thou hast received from Thine enemies in this Sacrament; thirdly, I wish by this visit, to adore Thee in all those places on earth where Thou art sacramentally present, and in which Thou art the least honored and the most abandoned. My Jesus, I love Thee with my whole heart. I am sorry for having hitherto so often offended Thine infinite goodness. I purpose, with the assistance of Thy grace, never more to offend Thee; and, at this moment, miserable as I am, I consecrate my whole being to Thee. I give Thee my entire will, all my affections and desires, and all that I have. From this day forward do what Thou wilt with me, and with everything that belongs to me. I ask and desire only Thy holy love, the gift of final perseverance, and the perfect fulfilment of Thy will. I commend to Thee the souls in purgatory, particularly those who were most devoted to the most Blessed Sacrament and to the Blessed Virgin Mary; and I also commend to Thee all poor sinners. Finally, my dear Saviour, I unite all my affections with the affections of Thy most loving Heart; and, thus united, I offer them to Thine Eternal Father, and I entreat Him, in Thy name and for Thy sake, to accept and answer them. Amen.

PAPAL INFALLIBILITY

Dr Warren Carroll

I have always found it rather ironically amusing that many historians critical of the Catholic Church find something disreputable in the proclamation of papal infallibility by the First Vatican Council and the discussions and preparations preceding it. Obviously these historians wish this proclamation had never happened and would like to blame those responsible; but in fact the truth of the doctrine of papal infallibility is historically incontrovertible (no natural explanation can account for some 270 Popes never disagreeing with one another in "ex cathedra" statements for 2,000 years, and there are several extraordinary cases of Popes who seemed about to violate infallibility and at the last minute were mysteriously held back from doing so—notably Popes Liberius and Vigilius, in the fourth and sixth centuries, respectively). It should also now be clear that with the Western world moving into an age when "all" intellectual as well as spiritual authority was challenged, where relativism and even fundamental skepticism were to become virtual intellectual norms, not only the sovereignty of truth but its doctrinal locus in the Popes had to be proclaimed.

Pope Pius IX did make extensive efforts before the First Vatican Council to ensure that it would confirm papal infallibility. Strictly speaking, it did not need to do so; the Pope has full authority to proclaim this or any other truth about the Catholic Faith and the Church by himself. But especially in the case of this unique charism given to Popes, he naturally saw it as better for it to be formally proclaimed by an ecumenical council. Since councils are not infallible and are often swayed by petty and even base motives, these advance efforts were both necessary and commendable. They can be made to look bad only by writers and readers who do not really understand who the Pope is.

In the end the fathers of the First Vatican council fully realized these truths themselves. The final vote on the schema proclaiming papal infallibility was 533-2. (A curious footnote to history is the fact that one of the two dissenters was the Bishop of Little Rock, Arkansas!) Cardinal Newman, who originally argued against the prudence of the declaration, though never against the doctrine itself) was eventually persuaded of its wisdom.

Ludwig Hertling, Philip Hughes, Martin Harney, and Henri Daniel-Rops are all excellent authorities in this matter, and none have been superseded. E. E. Y. Hales' biography of Pope Pius IX, "Pio Nono", though sometimes lacking in due respect for him and certainly not uncritical, essentially comes to the same conclusions as they, though I understand Hales changed many of his views for the worse since his biography was published some thirty years ago.

An astonishing thing happened in Rome today. The Vatican announced that it was co-sponsoring a new musical on the Blessed Mother, set to debut in Paul VI Hall just one week from today. For details, see my latest blog entry: Mary of Nazareth, the Musical.

As you'll see, I regard this musical effort as both worthwhile and important. Unfortunately, we'll have to see how it plays elsewhere before we'll get the chance for performances in English-speaking countries. The world tour will begin in Europe, Latin America and the Middle East.

Given this news, it is a good time to review devotion to Mary. Happily, L'Osservatore Romano published an excellent article on this subject just last month. See Mary Through the Ages, Her Beauty Bespeaks the Beauty of God.

The most popular production of all time, of course, is the Sacred Liturgy, although it should be called a "production" only when it is being abused. A reverent liturgy is never merely a human "production", and at its heart it remains always the work of God. Still the forms and impact of the liturgy inescapably involve the intersection of art with the human person.

For this reason and others, those who are following ongoing developments in the use of the extraordinary form of the Roman Rite (according to the Missal of Pope John XXIII) will be interested in a recent interview given by the President of the Pontifical Commission "Ecclesia Dei", which has charge of the implementation of the extraordinary form: A Two-Fold Use of the One Roman Rite.

We will continue to watch the progress of both this new Marian musical and--it goes without saying--the Sacred Liturgy.

Introduction

Augustine tells of a vision of seeing a little boy at a beach scooping up the ocean thimbleful by thimbleful and emptying it out on the sand. Then he sees an angel who tells him that this boy will have emptied out the entire ocean long before Augustine has exhausted what can be said about God.

This site's Featured Writings and Featured Audio about the ocean of God's love are only a few thimblefuls. No—less. For God's love is literally infinite. It is the shoreless sea we are destined to swim in, surf in, and grow in forever.

Under the Mercy,

May today there be peace within.
May you trust God that you are exactly where you are meant to be
May you not forget the infinite possibilities that are born of faith.
May you use those gifts that you have received, and pass on the love that has been given to you.
May you be content knowing you are a child of God. Let this presence settle into your bones, and allow your soul the freedom to sing, dance, praise and love.
It is there for each and every one of us.

   Saint Theresa' s Prayer

May today there be peace within.
May you trust God that you are exactly where you are meant to be
May you not forget the infinite possibilities that are born of faith.
May you use those gifts that you have received, and pass on the love that has been given to you.
May you be content knowing you are a child of God. Let this presence settle into your bones, and allow your soul the freedom to sing, dance, praise and love.
It is there for each and every one of us.
