Bishop of Diocese Where Biden Received

Communion Calls Him to Account over Abortion

By Kathleen Gilbert

TALLAHASSEE, Florida, November 7, 2008 (LifeSiteNews.com) - In a rare show of episcopal mettle, the bishop of Pensacola-Tallahassee swiftly sent VP-elect Joseph Biden a letter after he received communion on Sunday in the diocese, chastising him with "urgency" to examine his conscience carefully before receiving communion again.

Biden, who calls himself a devout Catholic, is an outspoken abortion proponent and as such has incurred automatic excommunication from the Church according to Canon Law.

The bishop witnessed to the Church's teaching that "human life is to be respected from the moment of conception until natural death," a principle of reason and of the common good that he called "knowable to all even beyond the categories of faith."

While not explicitly condemning the VP-Elect's reception of Holy Communion, Bishop John Richard of the Pensacola-Tallahassee diocese reminded Biden that his policies reflect "a profound disconnection" from his obligation as a Catholic "to protect the weakest and most innocent among us: the child in the womb."

Quoting the U.S. bishops' 2004 document Catholics in Public Life, Bishop Richard recalled the words of St. Paul to warn that, "'Whoever ... eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of profaning the  Body and Blood of the Lord.'”

The U.S. bishops had explained, using St. Paul's admonition as a reference, that "all must examine their consciences as to their worthiness to receive the Body and Blood of our Lord.

"This examination includes fidelity to the moral teaching of the Church in personal and public life ... Respect for the Holy Eucharist, in particular, demands that it be received worthily.”

Bishop Richard concluded his letter with the words, "I pray that the Catholic faith you have been raised in, the faith by which you pray, and the life of virtue which flows from both may strengthen you so that you may have the strength to ... live by the virtue of fortitude as you proclaim your support to the Person of Christ in the most  vulnerable of his members: the pre-born child."

Sen. Biden has come under fire from Church leaders on several occasions during the election season for misrepresenting Church teaching as compatible with his pro-abortion agenda.

        '10,000 MASSES FOR UNBORN
            BABIES' GAINS SUPPORT

MEMPHIS, TENNESSEE (December 3rd, 2008) - The January 13th - 21st, 2009 10,000 MASSES FOR UNBORN BABIES, an effort that is being coordinated by the Saint Michael the Archangel Organization, now has over 170 Masses scheduled to be offered for the protection of unborn human persons. This Novena of Masses may very well  mark a pro-life first if the goal of 10,000 is met.

Masses will be offered in a variety of places, including: Saint Mary's Church/Upper Coomera(Australia); Our Lady of Humility at Casa Santa/Rome(Italy); a Carmelite Monastery(U.S.A.); Saint Mary College Chapel/Port of Spain(Trinidad); Saint John Bosco Catholic Church/Bududa(Uganda); and, Church of the Holy Family/Toronto(Canada).  At least 3 priests will offer a Mass on each day of the Novena(a total of 27 masses).

"We still have a long way to go to reach the goal of 10,000, but the support already received is very encouraging," said Patrick Benedict, president of the Saint Michael the Archangel Organization and a parishioner at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in the Diocese of Memphis in Tennessee.

People who want to be a part of the 10,000 MASSES FOR UNBORN BABIES may do so by asking a priest to offer the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass for the protection of unborn human persons(of course, priests may do this on their own).  The Mass needs to be offered on one of the following days: January 13th, 14th, 15th, 16th, 17th, 18th, 19th, 20th, or 21st.  Once the Mass is scheduled, then the Saint Michael the Archangel Organization should be contacted and told the date and location of the Mass.  (A count of the total number of Masses scheduled to be offered is periodically updated on the homepage of the Saint Michael the Archangel Organization's website which is www.SaintMichaelTheArchangelOrganization.org.)

The contact information for the Saint Michael the Archangel Organization is as follows: email: PatrickBenedict@rcin.net;  mailing address: P. O. Box 41257; Memphis, Tennessee 38174; U.S.A.

The Revised Edition of the BALTIMORE CATECHISM(#2), called A CATECHISM OF CHRISTIAN DOCTRINE(Copyright, 1941, by Confraternity of Christian Doctrine) gives the following information about the Mass:

" The Mass is the sacrifice of the New Law in which Christ, through the ministry of the priest, offers Himself to God in an unbloody manner under the appearances of bread and wine."

" The principal priest in every Mass is Jesus Christ, who offers to His heavenly Father, through the ministry of His ordained priest, His body and blood which were sacrificed on the cross."

" The Mass is the same sacrifice as the sacrifice of the cross because in the Mass the victim is the same, and the principal priest is the same, Jesus Christ."

"I know the following is obvious, but I think it needs to be said: The unborn babies can not have Masses offered for themselves.  But, we can," continued Benedict.  "For the love of God and for the love of His precious unborn babies, I hope many people will take part in this effort that is seeking to protect the innocents from those who would kill them.

" The father of the Culture of Death is Satan himself. To combat this 'liar' and 'murderer', one must engage in spiritual warfare.  I plead to members of the Church Militant throughout the world: Have the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass offered for the protection of unborn human persons," concluded Benedict.

3
Have mercy on me, God, in your goodness; in your abundant compassion blot out my offense.
4
Wash away all my guilt; from my sin cleanse me.
5
For I know my offense; my sin is always before me.
6
Against you alone have I sinned; I have done such evil in your sight that you are just in your sentence, blameless when you condemn.
7
True, I was born guilty, a sinner, even as my mother conceived me.
8
Still, you insist on sincerity of heart; in my inmost being teach me wisdom.
9
Cleanse me with hyssop, that I may be pure; wash me, make me whiter than snow.
10
Let me hear sounds of joy and gladness; let the bones you have crushed rejoice.
11
Turn away your face from my sins; blot out all my guilt.
12
A clean heart create for me, God; renew in me a steadfast spirit.
13
Do not drive me from your presence, nor take from me your holy spirit.
14
Restore my joy in your salvation; sustain in me a willing spirit.
15
I will teach the wicked your ways, that sinners may return to you.
16
Rescue me from death, God, my saving God, that my tongue may praise your healing power.
17
Lord, open my lips; my mouth will proclaim your praise.
18
For you do not desire sacrifice; a burnt offering you would not accept.
19
My sacrifice, God, is a broken spirit; God, do not spurn a broken, humbled heart.
20
Make Zion prosper in your good pleasure; rebuild the walls of Jerusalem.
21
Then you will be pleased with proper sacrifice, burnt offerings and holocausts; then bullocks will be offered on your altar.
